Is Scott Home & Business Services licensed and insured?
We carry liability insurance to insure against property damage. In the state of Texas, since we fall under the “handyman” and general repair service, a license is not required.
Licenses are, however required for the following trades:
- Plumber
- Electrician
- General Contractors
- HVAC
We know our limits, of when we are able to complete your project, or refer you to a licensed professional. We will advise you if your project requires a licensed contractor. Where possible, we can refer you to a licensed contractor (for larger jobs such as remodeling), or other professional.
What is the difference between an estimate and a quote?
When you contact us (email, phone, web contact, in the HEB or Home Depot parking lot!), we will provide you with an estimate of what we believe the project may cost (labor only and dependent on the information that you give us). It will give us a preliminary idea of what you would like to have completed. Consider it like a “ball park figure.” In most cases, estimates are given over the phone, email, text or messenger. Once we arrive on the job site, as long as both parties agree, the estimate can be used as the actual quote.
Some larger projects will require a (free) site visit to physically see what is involved with your project, as well as determining which tools, equipment and material are required. At this point we can give you a quote (for labor) and an estimate for materials. The quote for labor is what you will pay, and the estimate for the materials will be for what we believe will be required. Materials is actual cost of materials (actual receipts will be provided from supplier).
If there is “scope creep,” then a new quote will be required.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!
How do I get a quote for my project(s)?
First, Contact Us:
- Web submit (see Contact Us)
- Call us (737-802-9506 or 817-944-1343)
- Stop us in the parking lot of HEB, Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-mart, Tractor Supply!
Give us a description of your project. The more detail the better. We can then give you a written estimate (physical or email). If we are standing in a parking lot, may have to be oral estimate.
Next, we schedule a site visit. This allows us to physically assess the project and estimate the supplies and materials required.
We will then present you with a written quote, valid for 30 days. The quote is what you will actually pay for the labor. Supplies and materials is estimated.
How do a schedule my project?
Just let us know when you would like to start your project. Keep in mind we may have to take some time to purchase supplies and materials.
Do I need to put down a deposit for my project?
- Any projects quoted for less than $500, NO deposit is required.
- Repeat customers, NO deposit required.
When is full payment due?
Full payment is due upon completion of your project (labor and materials).
What about supplies and materials?
When we make a site visit, we will make a list of supplies and materials needed. We will then go and purchase everything required. We can give you an estimate of what the materials may cost, but you only pay for the actual cost of the materials (we will supply actual receipt from supplier).
If you already have the supplies / materials, then we will let you know if we are able to work with them (as long as in good condition, not rotted or weathered, etc. … for example).
What is "scope creep?"
Scope creep is when additional requirements (labor, supplies, materials) extend beyond what was originally agreed to in quote. Scope creep is usually AFTER the project has started.
Most of the time, scope creep is avoidable by:
- Defining the requirements
- Define the expectations (what is the end result)
- Define the solution(s)
Sometimes though, scope creep can’t be avoided. In any type of repair, there is always a potential for underlying issues that was not visible or known.
In the event that scope creep happens, if you wish to continue with the project, then a new quote will be drawn up.
Do you offer a refund policy?
YES! If you are not satisfied with our workmanship, then we will refund (excluding supplies and materials) your money.
